Monday, September 12, 2011

I apologize if my directions to the students for homework were unclear on Monday night. Students were supposed to cut apart their spelling words and then sort them or in the case of this list match up the words with the picture. This part of the spelling program is called "sort". Next student were to write the words from the list however they sorted them. This week all the words were "at" or "short a" words. Then each night they should sort and take a pretest on the words. One of the pretests should be done on the back of the Independent Word Study. Originally I told the students that the Independent Word Study was due on Wednesday. I think I will take it any day up to Friday morning of each week. This spelling sort and Independent Word Study will be a part of homework every week. As we get more into the spelling program, your child may have a list of words that begin with "st" or "ch" and then they would sort those words into two columns of "st" and "ch" words. Maybe this list was confusing because there was not anything to sort. My purpose for this list was that the words were easy and I wanted the students to succeed this week, as we start the spelling program.

I also assigned word a day last night for the first WAD homework.
A few students also had math homework, work they did not finish in class today during math class.

Hope this explanation help clear up some confusion from Monday night's homework.
