This Friday is the last day of the Third Marking Period. Report cards will be sent home some time next week. Please call me if you have concerns or you would like a Spring Conference.
April is Poetry and Punch month – I have taken out the poem books, students should start looking for a poem and begin to memorize it. Poetry and Punch will take place on April 15th.
March 24th – Rumpelstiltskin – a group in coming to perform Rumpelstiltskin for us at 10:00, but there is a charge. Please send $1.00 and the school will cover the rest of the charge. No students will be excluded. Thanks for your help with this.
Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment tests are scheduled for the week of April 11-14 - Reading and April 18-21 –Math. Attendance on these days if very important.
Math Madness in March… not 100%.
Book orders will be due on Friday, March 25th, checks made out to: Scholastic Book Club.
Spelling…. This weeks words are on the yellow list - extra words are computer and division.
Word a Day… WAD this week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reading… we are using our Guided Reading groups and daily five reading activities everyday. We are still reading, Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary.
Math… We are working on Chapter 7 – multiplying double digits and this week we will start division with remainders. If you child is not a whiz at the multiplication facts, division with remainders may be tough. Please keep practicing multiplication facts at home. Please help your child remember to return their math homework.
Grammar… we are Learning About Verbs.
SS…we will work on Map Skills this week and a Time For Kids.
SCI We will be reading and working from Science Weekly and discussing the career’s the students researched.

Math Madness in March…Today we kicked-off a March math event. The whole elementary school is going to spend the month of March focusing on math and math facts. We are starting with a nightly math homework challenge. The students will have math homework every night in March with incentives to finish it and return it on time the next day. I am looking forward to lots of math fun!
Spelling…. This weeks words are on the yellow list - extra words are career and degree.
Word a Day… WAD this week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reading… we are using our Guided Reading groups and daily five reading activities everyday. This week everyone is reading together the story, The Chalk Box Kid by Clyde Robert Bulla
Math… We are finishing up Chapter 6 and will have a test on Wednesday.
Grammar… we are into our next unit Learning About Verbs.
Social Studies/Science…
SS…we will work on Map Skills this week and a Time For Kids.
SCI We will be reading and learning about rocks and today we have begun the Careers in Science project. Students will be researching careers in science. The following website http://www.sciencebuddies.org/ lists many science careers and answers the questions on the careers in science worksheet quite easily. I have taken time in class to help explain to students how to navigate the website. Students may search other websites to find other careers in science they are interested in that may not be listed here. Along with the worksheets, a poster created in class will reflect the career they are most interested in.
This project will be due on Monday, March 14th.
Students may research up 5 careers for an A, 4 careers for a B, 3 careers for a C, 2 careers for a D and 1 for an F.
