We had a great day, we finished up our store today, but it will reopen in the spring. We started our magnet science kit and the students got to play around with magnets for a long time today. They loved exploring - we talked about attract and repel, new science words. In math the students took "NOTES" for the first time ever. They really thought this was great. They wrote notes for math vocabulary words like right angle, acute angle, obtuse angle, line, point and ray.

Dear Parents/Guardians , November 29, 2010
Spelling…. The words are on the green list – the extra words are December and read. There will be a spelling test on Friday.
Word a Day… WAD this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reading… Students will continue to work in small groups, read to self, work on writing, word work, listen to reading and read to someone. We are also working on writing our Reading Rainbow Writing contest stories. Remember to return November BookIt!
Your child is becoming a published author – please look over the order form -we have the opportunity to have our third grade stories printed and bound like a real book. Your child will get their original book printed for free. You are welcome to order more copies if you’d like. Please compete the order form and return it to school tomorrow (Tuesday). At the top of the light purple paper please check yes if you’d like to order more. If you do not want to order any – please check no and return the form anyway. I will need all forms back either way. Thanks for your help with this.
Math…We are going to skip ahead to Chapter 11 – Geometry and continue to review addition, subtraction, time and money. I am sending home the Chapter 11 Math News that goes along with this chapter – there is some very important math vocabulary in this chapter – things covered on the MCA, Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment tests. We will close the “Third Grade Store” after tomorrow. I will save the “merchandise” and will reopen the store again this spring. I had a great first night of conferences on Monday. I really like to talk with parents and appreciate your attendance. It is so great that we can work together for the benefit of your child. I look forward to more conferences on Wednesday.
The Scholastic Book Fair is back at school. It will be open tomorrow night during conference time and then again next week, we will have some classroom time to shop next week. I didn't send home a November book order for this reason.
DID I SAY SHOP?? The students are having a great time shopping in the "Third Grade Class Store". Today everyone spent some play money, but most importantly, they had to add up their purchases and make the correct change or the item was not theirs. We are having fun!
